Evaluations for immigration deportation stays are not standard psychological evaluations. These are forensic evaluations designed to document to the court the psychological impacts to the American citizens of the deportation order (hardship waiver), the impact of failing to provide asylum to someone from a country where their life may be threatened (asylum waiver), or to document how the immigrant served law enforcement by reporting crime (U-Visa). A standard psychological evaluation doesn't address these issues. While a psychological diagnosis may be required to understand the elements in a case, more often than not, a diagnosis is not needed. Psychological testing may also not be needed and tests may not have been normed on the population being evaluated.
Our office has evaluators that speak Spanish, Farsi as well as English and have training in documenting the history and circumstances surrounding the case.
