Apps for Tracking Moods

Posted by Margaret Donohue on April 21, 2013 at 10:00 PM

A colleague of mine asked if I could send her the names of some applications for helping a client track their moods.  I thought it was something a lot of clients or psychologists might be interested in.

For psychologists:

It's always possible to give a client several Beck Depression Inventory or Beck Anxiety Inventory forms and have them email you item numbers and ratings.  That will allow you to track their scores between visits and contact them with specific instructions for intervening if the numbers are going up.  The same would be true with other self-report rating forms.

  • Novo Psych Psychometrics for iPad $37.99, allows a clinician to select tests for administration and scoring.
  • Q-Interactive by Pearson, allows you to leave some bulky manuals at home for things like IQ testing.
  • Q-Local by Pearson allows for tests to be administered on a laptop.
  • Other major test companies have online and iPad based assessments including Riverside Publishing, Pro-Ed, PAR, and others.
  • http://sylvainroy.blogspot.com/2011/02/iphone-apps-for-psychologists.html  A great link to lots of psychology applications.

For Clients:

  • Mood Tracker for iPhone or iPad
  • Moody Me, Mood Diary for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
  • Moodlytics for Android
  • www.Moodchart.org for PC or Mac
  • Mood Tracker from http://www.medhelp.org
  • Happiness tracker from http://happiness,org
  • Mood Panda for iPhone, Android, PC and Mac
  • eMoods bipolar mood tracker for Android
  • T2 Mood Tracker for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch
  • http://www.MySmark.com  lets you tag things you notice online or take photos of and share how they make you feel.
  • http://www.themoodpolish.com is a nail polish that will change color throughout the day based on how you are feeling (remember mood rings?)

There are other applications as well for people to measure and track how they are feeling throughout the day.  If you are a professional and are interested in what technology might be able to do for you or your practice feel free to contact us.  If you are a client interested in services feel free to contact us by phone or email.

To monitor mood there is also an iPad app called NovoPsych Psychometrics. It's designed for psychologists to adminstor symtom check lists via the iPad. It has the DASS-21 and about 15 other widely used tests like the GAD-7. Novopsych.com
